1.

Get and stay out of your comfort zone.
I believe that not much happens of any significance when we’re in our comfort zone.  I hear people say, “But I’m concerned about security.”  My response to that is simple: “Security is for cadavers.”

2.

Never give up.
Almost nothing works the first time it’s attempted.  Just because what you’re doing does not seem to be working, doesn’t mean it won’t work.  It just means that it might not work the way you’re doing it.  If it was easy, everyone would be doing it, and you wouldn’t have an opportunity.

3.

When you’re ready to quit, you’re closer than you think.
There’s an old Chinese saying that I just love, and I believe it is so true.  It goes like this: “The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed.”

4.

With regard to whatever worries you, not only accept the worst thing that could happen, but make it a point to quantify what the worst thing could be.
Very seldom will the worst consequence be anywhere near as bad as a cloud of “undefined consequences.”  My father would tell me early on, when I was struggling and losing my shirt trying to get Parsons Technology going, “Well, Robert, if it doesn’t work, they can’t eat you.”

5.

Focus on what you want to have happen.
Remember that old saying, “As you think, so shall you be.”

6.

Be quick to decide.
Remember what General George S. Patton said: “A good plan violently executed today is far and away better than a perfect plan tomorrow.”

7.

Always be moving forward.
Never stop investing.  Never stop improving.  Never stop doing something new.  The moment you stop improving your organization, it starts to die.  Make it your goal to be better each and every day, in some small way.  Remember the Japanese concept of Kaizen.  Small daily improvements eventually result in huge advantages.

8.

Take things a day at a time.
No matter how difficult your situation is, you can get through it if you don’t look too far into the future, and focus on the present moment.  You can get through anything one day at a time.

9.

Measure everything of significance.
I swear this is true.  Anything that is measured and watched, improves.

10.

Anything that is not managed will deteriorate.
If you want to uncover problems you don’t know about, take a few moments and look closely at the areas you haven’t examined for a while.  I guarantee you problems will be there.

11.

Pay attention to your competitors, but pay more attention to what you’re doing.
When you look at your competitors, remember that everything looks perfect at a distance. Even the planet Earth, if you get far enough into space, looks like a peaceful place.

12.

Never let anybody push you around.
In our society, with our laws and even playing field, you have just as much right to what you’re doing as anyone else, provided that what you’re doing is legal.

13.

Never expect life to be fair.
Life isn’t fair.  You make your own breaks.  You’ll be doing good if the only meaning fair has to you, is something that you pay when you get on a bus (i.e., fare).

14.

Solve your own problems.
You’ll find that by coming up with your own solutions, you’ll develop a competitive edge. Masura Ibuka, the co-founder of SONY, said it best: “You never succeed in technology, business, or anything by following the others.”  There’s also an old saying that I remind myself of frequently.  It goes like this: “A wise man keeps his own counsel.”

15.

Don’t take yourself too seriously.
Lighten up.  Often, at least half of what we accomplish is due to luck. None of us are in control as much as we like to think we are.

16.

There’s always a reason to smile.
Find it.  After all, you’re really lucky just to be alive.  Life is short.  More and more, I agree with my little brother. He always reminds me: “We’re not here for a long time; we’re here for a good time!”

Why are guys better than gals ?
  • Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.
  • A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.
  • When clicking through the channel, you don’t have to stop on every shot of someone crying.
  • None of your co-workers have the power to make you cry.
  • If you’re 35 and single nobody notices.
  • Three pair of shoes are more than enough.
  • Car mechanics tell you the truth.
  • Flowers fix everything.
Men’s rules for women:
  • Don’t cut your hair. Ever.
  • Don’t make us guess.
  • Sometimes, he’s not thinking about you. Live with it.
  • Get rid of your cat. And no, it’s not different, it’s just like every other cat.
  • Anything you wear is fine. Really.
  • Crying is blackmail. Use it if you must, but don’t expect us to like it.
  • Ask for what you want. Subtle hints don’t work.
  • No, he doesn’t know what day it is. He never will. Mark anniversaries.

What they say ?

What they mean ?

May be  No
I’ll be ready in a minute  Give me a couple more hours
You have to learn to communicate  Just agree with me
 I’m sorry  You’ll be sorry
We need to talk  I need to complain

If you want a thing bad enough
To go out and fight for it,
Work day and night for it,
Give up your time and your peace and
your sleep for it

If only desire of it
Makes you quite mad enough
Never to tire of it,
Makes you hold all other things tawdry
and cheap for it

If life seems all empty and useless without it
And all that you scheme and you dream is about it,

If gladly you’ll sweat for it,
Fret for it, Plan for it,
Lose all your terror of God or man for it,

If you’ll simply go after that thing that you want.
With all your capacity,
Strength and sagacity,
Faith, hope and confidence, stern pertinacity,

If neither cold poverty, famished and gaunt,
Nor sickness nor pain
Of body or brain
Can turn you away from the thing that you want,

If dogged and grim you besiege and beset it,
You’ll get it!

Ever wondered how a HR Manager could write a love letter to his girlfriend?

Hope you would enjoy it.

_________________________________________________________________
To, Sara

Sub: Offer of love!

Dear Ma’am,

I am very happy to inform you that I have fallen in Love with you
since the 20th of October (Thursday). With reference to the meeting
held between us on the 19th of Oct. at 1500hrs, I would like to
present myself as a prospective lover. Our love affair would be on
probation for a period of three months and depending on compatibility,
would be made permanent. Of course, upon completion of probation,
there will be continuous on the job training and performance appraisal
schemes leading up to promotion from lover to spouse. The expenses
incurred for coffee and entertainment would initially be shared
equally between us. Later, based on your performance, I might take! up
a larger share of the expenses. However I am broadminded enough to be
taken care of, on your expense account.

I request you to kindly respond within 30 days of receiving this
letter, failing which, this offer would be cancelled without further
notice and I shall be considering someone else. I would be happy, if
you could forward this letter to your sister, if you do not wish to
take up this offer.

Wish you all the best!

Thanking you in anticipation,

Yours sincerely,

HR Manager

I have changed. Yes I have. :)

I finished my class 12th from Kanpur(Singhania) and went to Pune to pursue further studies. Graduated in Commerce from Symbiosis and then again showed my loyalty to the Symbiosis family by continuing MBA from Symbiosis University. Its been four and half years in Pune.. and guys. I changed.

B.Com. Days:

I was not what I am today. I was a person full of life, joy, laughter. People used to love my company. I had great contacts. My friends used to say that I would do MBA in Dongiri. LOL. I had HUGE number of friends. I used to be on phone most of the times. I remeber my parents used to say “In the entire family Lavina must be having maximum number of contacts”. Mind it guys.. By contacts I mean some really influential ones ;) I had a nice life. I was an average student in B.com. (but a merit holder till class 12th). I Used to wake up, go to college for fun, go to Drama practice/CS classes. Come back in evening, Sit at the adda with friends till night, Come back home, Enjoy fun at hostel (esp with my room mate and another friend.. we three were great buddies) and sleep. Ghosh.. at the end of the day I used to get tired laughing at my own jokes and on others. I was happy, satisfied and contended. Used to spend a lot of time with friends, family and loved ones. Just one thing was missing from my life: FOCUS and I never even thought seriously about my career. This stands as a glimpse of my B.com. Days.

MBA Days:

Hmmm… Well… Something happened to me when I entered MBA. With the first month of my entry to MBA I realised I did not have a goal. Where was the GOAL? And gradually I started getting inclined towards my goal.. my focus. I gained keen interest in technology and coding. I drifted away from my B.Com Days completely. Friends used to call and I did not even bother where my phone used to be (so opposite of what I was). I dont remember any one’s birthday now (I was the person who used to call every one at 12 sharp). I dont get much time to devote to my friends, family, loved ones. I listen to complains from every one. To my surprise none of the complaints or expectations effect me. My old friends say “Lavina.. you have forgotten to laugh on jokes! :) ”. Do I lack emotions and feelings now? Hmm.. Can’t find an answer. Today I have an AIM, a FOCUS, a GOAL. But I am not contended and not satisfied(like I was). There is hunger for more and more. I dont know how to control this hunger. I apologise to all who feel I have changed. Its not that I have forgotten anyone. Its just that priorities have changed. And in my view.. I guess each one of us enter such a phase once in the life time. Hope Life brings all of us THE BEST. GOD BLESS US ALL.

An update on 6th Feb 2011 – I happened to read this post again today (after almost 2 years !!).. And I laughed out loud !! Change is purely constant !!! ;)

Well guys.. I was thinking of starting a blog for a long time.. And finally.. its here..

I thought what should my first post relate to.

Cuurently I am interning with a Company in Kanpur and learning new technologies.

One of the technology is Symfony..

Symfony is a well designed framework for PHP. There are many frameworks that exists in market for PHP.

But Symfony is a beauty.  It is a beautiful blend of MVC architecture and Object Oriented Programming.

When I started learning Symfony … I started learning it the wrong way :)

Instead of understanding Symfony in depth.. I started building a project on it by the tutorial published by them.

Here is the link to the first project http://www.symfony-project.org/tutorial/1_2/my-first-project .

I was confused with things.

But I realised soon that things are not going the right way.

So… I started again. I started with reading the Symfony book.

Here is the link to it http://www.symfony-project.org/book/1_2/

I have not yet finished reading it.. But ya.. Now I got understanding of  Symfony.

And now.. when I look at the project .. I get a clear understanding of how things are done.

So guys eager to learn Symfony..

1. Start reading the documentation http://www.symfony-project.org/doc/1_2/

2. Start Reading the book http://www.symfony-project.org/book/1_2/

3. Along with the book start with building first project http://www.symfony-project.org/tutorial/1_2/my-first-project .

4. Another Project (Using Doctrine) http://www.symfony-project.org/jobeet/1_2/Doctrine/en/

You are done now :)

So go ahead and check out lates version of Symfony at http://www.symfony-project.org/

Install it as a pear package.. And start enjoying the real meaning of MVCarchitecture.
